From Paris…With Love – Saturday, May 8, 2:30pm


Join the Symphony of the Southwest for the finale of their 2009-2010 season on Saturday, May 8 at 2:30pm in the Ikeda Theater at Mesa Arts Center.  “From Paris…With Love” will feature the romantic beauty of classical music from the French masters: Chabrier’s Espana and Joyeuse Marche, Danse and Afternoon of a Faun by Debussy, The Swan and Bacchanale by Saint-Saens, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Dukas, and Mother Guise Suite and Pavane by Ravel.  The Youth Symphony of the Southwest will join the Symphony of the Southwest for this side by side program featuring a collection of fabulous French symphonic masterpieces.


General admission tickets are $17, and can be purchased by calling the Mesa Arts Center box office at (480) 644-6500 or at their online box office.

Space and Science Concert – Saturday, March 27, 2:30pm, Ikeda Theater – Mesa Arts Center


Join the Symphony of the Southwest for our “Space and Science Concert” on Saturday, March 27 at 2:30pm in the Ikeda Theater at Mesa Arts Center.  The program features Mozart’s “Symphony No. 41″ (Jupiter Symphony) and Gustav Holst’s masterpiece “The Planets” with synchronized video footage of space, the planets, and stars presented on a larger than life screen to complete a true trip to space! Tickets are only $17 and can be purchased by calling the Mesa Arts Center box office at (480) 644-6500, or you can visit their online box office.

Mayor of Mesa to be guest narrator with Symphony of the Southwest – Saturday, November 21

On Saturday, November 21 at 2:30pm in the Ikeda Theater at Mesa Arts Center, the Symphony of the Southwest will present a special concert for children.  “Tubby the Tuba & Friends” will feature the Youth Symphony of the Southwest, and acclaimed pianists Walter Cosand and Robert Hamilton will join the Symphony of the Southwest for Saint-Saens’s “Carnival of the Animals.”  Also joining the Symphony of the Southwest as narrator on “Tubby the Tuba” is the Mayor of Mesa, the Honorable Scott Smith.


Mayor Smith serves on many boards and committees a few are the US Conference of Mayors Advisory Board, National League of Cities Transportation Infrastructure Committee, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Board and Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council Executive Committee.

Professionally, Mayor Smith has worked for both Price Waterhouse and ExecuShare, LTD.  He also worked for the University of Phoenix as an accounting and finance instructor.  Most recently, Mayor Smith served as President for both Great Western Homes and K. Hovnanian Homes.

Mayor Smith earned a degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University, after completing a two-year mission in Bolivia. He continued his studies at Arizona State University earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate.
