FROM BACH TO BARTOK

Saturday, November 5, 2011 – 7:30pm

Mesa Arts Center – Piper Theater


Violin virtuoso Katie McLin and the Symphony of the Southwest strings perform Bach’s concerto in A minor surrounded by 20th century music that looks back in time to the 16th and 18th centuries.  The dance suite, theme and variations, and concerto grosso are lovingly captured by Bartok, Parry and Vaughan Williams.



HOLIDAY CELEBRATION

Catch the holiday spirit with Symphony of the Southwest and the Youth Symphony of the Southwest on stage side by side in a festive celebration of the season.

Richard Strauss, Antonin Dvorak and Johannes Brahms are well known, but some of their most beautiful music is not.  These serenades are exquisite and this is a rare opportunity to hear them played by the fabulous wind section of the Symphony of the Southwest.

Celebrate Arizona’s Centennial.  Enjoy the visual beauty of Arizona with images projected on a giant screen while you listen to Ferde Grofe’s enchanting Grand Canyon Suite.  Other Arizona composers will be featured.  You won’t want to miss this celebration in sight and sound.
