The Soloist – Music & Community United

The Soloist, based on a true story about a schizophrenic homeless man, cellist and violinist living on the streets of Los Angeles, is the inspiration behind our upcoming food drives in March in conjunction with American League of Orchestras and Feeding America. As one of over a hundred orchestras reaching out to the community during the month of March to collect food donations, Symphony of the Southwest recognizes the power of music and community united as one. The Soloist is set for theatrical release April 24, 2009.

Elgar: Not Just For Graduations

You all know the tune as the moment of triumph and freedom played at graduations everywhere. Edward Elgar knew it as his ubiquitous work Pomp & Circumstance March No. 1 in D. See Edward Elgar conduct Pomp & Circumstance at the opening of EMI’s Abbey Road studios in London on November 12, 1931 in this rare footage. Hear it in person at our March 20 & 21 Classical Music’s Greatest Hits II concerts and bring a few food items with you to donate to United Food Bank. You’ll graduate tops : )
