Symphony of the Southwest announces the following vacancies for the 2011-2012 season -
Violin 2 – 2 positions, $31.50 per service
Cello – 1 position, $31.50 per service
Auditions will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011 at:
Corona del Sol High School
1001 E. Knox Rd.
Tempe, AZ 85284
Violin audition will begin at 9:30am. Cello audition will begin at 11:30am.
Applications must be received by 5:00pm, September 22, 2011. A non-refundable audition fee of $20.00 is required from each participant. Make checks payable to Symphony of the Southwest. Make checks payable to Symphony of the Southwest. Please include with your check the application form and a brief resume. Those who do not appear at the audition at the designated time or fail to cancel 24 hours before the audition will forfeit their $20 check.

Violin virtuoso Katie McLin and the Symphony of the Southwest strings perform Bach’s concerto in A minor surrounded by 20th century music that looks back in time to the 16th and 18th centuries. The dance suite, theme and variations, and concerto grosso are lovingly captured by Bartok, Parry and Vaughan Williams.

Celebrate Arizona’s Centennial. Enjoy the visual beauty of Arizona with images projected on a giant screen while you listen to Ferde Grofe’s enchanting Grand Canyon Suite. Other Arizona composers will be featured. You won’t want to miss this celebration in sight and sound.
On Saturday, May 7 at 2:30pm at Trinity Baptist Church (2130 E. University Dr., Mesa), Symphony of the Southwest will present “Mother’s Day at the Opera,” their final concert of the 2010-2011 season. Bring Mom and the whole family to an afternoon of operatic selections guaranteed to lift you out of your seat!

Join us for “Walter Cosand and the Russian Romantics” on Saturday, March 26 at 7:30pm in the Ikeda Theater at Mesa Arts Center (1 E. Main St., Mesa). This program of all-Russian music features Walter Cosand playing Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Piano Concerto No. 2″, plus Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain” and Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite.”

Don’t miss this sweet fundraiser for Symphony of the Southwest!
On Monday, February 7 and Tuesday, February 8, the Symphony of the Southwest will perform Sergei Prokofiev’s famous children’s piece “Peter & the Wolf” for over 3,000 east valley elementary school kids! These concerts are also open to the public, and admission is free! The symphony will perform this great work 6 times – on Monday, February 7 at 9:30am, 10:30am and 11:30am, and on Tuesday, February 8 at 9:30am, 10:30am and 11:30am.
